NAPIER INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL FETE

There was a large attendance. at the Napier Intermediate School yesterday afternoon when the school anfiual fair was held. The school -grounds were laid out in various stalls. The principal classrooms were used for the display of woodwt>?k, , needlework, writing, drawing, map-drawing, and clay-modelling by the pupils of the school. The fair was opened by the Mayor, Mr. C. O. Morse. A prograinme of physical driil, daucing, pyramids, first aid, life-saving and folk dancing, was given by the pupils. The afternoon tea and Christmas tree arrangements were in the hands of Mesdames C. > H. Butclier, H. D. McBeath, T. G. Baker, O. Hill, E. Maylett, O. McNaught, R. Laing, J. Smale, D. B. McRae and Miss McRae. Those visitors who 'inspected tlie arts and crafts display could ,not fail to have been impressed by the very high standard of work shown, and wifh the e'vidence of the excellent results not only of the instruction given by the principal, Mr. F.R. SJevin, and his staff, but also of the instructors in the M'anual Training -classes. The samples of woodwork, which included some good specimenes of inlaid work, would have been a credit to much older pupils and those with much greater experience andiength of instruction. This Work was very favourably commented upon by Mr. Morse, who is qnalified to express an expert opinion on tho subject. Similarly the specimens of needlework, in the cutting-out and making of garments, done by the girl pupils, could hardly have been bettered. The samples of the ordinary work of the school, writing, drawing, designing, etc., were also very good), and the whole display was one of great inerit.
