Caught Trout During Closed Season

TAUPO, This Pay. At a sitting of tlie Magistrate's Court field in Taupo to-day before Messrs R. H. Ward and R. F. Hutchins, J.P.'s, three natives, Kahu Hurae, Tini Maniapopo, and Duncan Wall, jrere each convicted and fined a total of £4 each for taking trout at the Waitetoko stream, Tokaanu, during the closed season. Mr. Kean, conservator, of Rotorua, prosecuted, and remarked that there was no exeuse for natives now to poach during the closed season, as they were well paid and were not driven to catching fish for food only. He asked for a heavy penaltv to he Imposed.
