Red Oross Appeal. The secretary cf the Waipukurau Red Cross acknowledges £1 from Mrs G. L. Jamieson and 10/'- from Miss King (Napier) for the Sanatorium Christmas fete. Christmas Eve Trafflc. No recommendation that the main street be closed to motor traffic on Christmas Eve is to be made by the Waipukurau Chamber of Commerce. At the annual meeting of the chamber Mr W. Lourie asked whether, in the interests of safety -to children, the street was to be closed, as was done in Hastings and Dannevirke. Mr B. L. Wallis considered that the fewer restrictions on the public the better, and no aetion was taken. Waipawa Blaze. In the early hours of Sunday rnoming a large motcr coach, the property of Mr B. Hooper, who carries the mail between Waipawa and Tikokino, was totally destroyed by fire. The vehicle was parked elose to Mr Hooper's residence at Tikokino and when discovered was well ablaze, and it was impossible to save it. It is not known how the fire commenced, but probably a smouldering cig~rette butt was the cause of the fire. ' Parking in the Main Street. "What is the chamber's opiniOn of the present parking," asked Mr C. W. Browne at the annual meeting of the Waipukurau Chamber of Commerce. Mr H. B. Roach said the chamber should fight tooth and nail any suggestion regarding .. limit on parking, as that . meant a restriction to . business. Mr C. F. Haycock said there was no time limit, but Mr Roach replied that there was going to be. Mr C. A. Gallagher commented that prospective customers in cars might go elsewhere if they found all the parking space in front of a particular shop occupied. Mr F. V. Ward considered that there was little likelihood of harmful regulations and the chamber adopted his suggestion to take no action but to watch the position.
