Major A. Douglas, of Lower Hutt, is at present on a visit to his son, Mr Y. E. Douglas, Waipawa. An inquest concerning tlie death of a native of Te Hauke pa, Pohatu Hapuka, was opened at Waipawa by the Coroner, Mr F. Adeane, and adjourned pending a pathological examination . of the contents of the stomach. Dr. D. Y. Allen, who made a post-mortem, was unable to find any reasonable cause for death, and this necessitated the inquiry being carried further. Mr and Mrs Tliorne, of Ashhurst, are on a visit to Ormondville, where they are the guests of their son and daugh-ter-in-law, Mr and Mrs Tom Thorne. Mrs Bellamy has returned to her home at Stratford, after spending a short time with relatives in Ormondville. Mrs Evans, of Otaki, recently paid a short visit to Ormondville, where she was the guest of Mrs I. J. Wills. Mr W. Lourie was elected a member of the Waipukurau Chamber of Commerce at its annual meeting last evening. Mr H. Koach was elected president of of the Waipukurau Chamber of Commerce at its annual meeting held last night. Mr R. W. Bates, of the Dannevirke South School, has been apopinted to fill the vacaney on the Wairoa District High School staff, caused by the transfer of Mr E. Read to Kopuawhara. The Mayor of Wairoa, Mr H. L. Harker, left on Sunday evening for Wellington in the rail-car which brought the General Manager of Railways and party to Wairoa. Mr N. H. Tunnicliff, of the Hastings Street School, Napier, having received permission to withdraw his application, Mr G. ;J. Goldsman, at present headmaster of the Martinborough School, has been appointed to the headmastership of the Dannevirke South School, the appointment to take effec* February 1, 1938.
