TWENTY-FIRST BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED RECENTLY

The home of Mrs Toko Franklin, Beverley Hills, Havelock North, was the scene of much gaiety and excitement when the coming of age of her only son, Tony Broughton, was celebrated. The beautiful gardens wero lighted with electricity, and on the upper lawns one long table was &et for the birthday dinner. The tables wero beautifully decorated, with red roses and in the centre of the table was the birthday cake, with 21 candles, the cake having been a present from the step-father of the guest of honour. At 10 o'elock the guests assembled to honour the toaSt of the guest-of -honour, this being proposed by Mr Charles Karekare. Ai'ter the toast was drunk Mrs Toko Franklin presented her son with a gold key, and the guest of honour suitably responded, firstly in English and then in Maori. Among the guests present were Mr and Mrs A. E. Brooker, Mr and Mro Charles Karekare and famiiy, Mrs Kingita (grand aunt), Mr and Mrs Kihi, Mr and Mrs Wati, Mrs Hangi Mohi, Misses Phyllis Smith, G.
