LESS THAN EXPECTED

Our Own Correspondent.)

Civil Service Salaries RESULTS OF REGRADING

(From

AUCKLAND, This Day. While not feeling disposed to comment at large on the reported statement of the proposed increases ia salaries to officers and employees of State services in the absence of fuller information, officials of Civil Service organisations yesterday expressed disappointment at the increases. Officials of tke Auckland section of he Pubiic Service Association said that the increases were not 'as much as was expected. The combined associations had submitted proposais ot the Govemment, it was added, and it had been hoped that the 1920 standard would be restored. There had been two cuts in 1921 and 1922 and although subsequent cuts had been restored there still remained the earlier reductions. Failure to restore them would give rise to general disappointment. "It is pleasing to note that young are benefited," said an official. "The maximum salary for class VII, has people in their early years of service been raised from £295 to £305, giving officers £10 more, and they attain that maximum a year earlier thau in the past. 4 As far as can be seen from the proposais as reported, however, it seems that no provision has been made for class VI, which is divided into steps of £320 and £335 at present, nor does there appear to be speeial provision for increases in the higher grades."
