Britain Prepares in Case of War
(From
LONDON, Nov. 13. A full explanation of the National Food Storage plan is to be issued by its sponsors, the Empire Movement. shortly. Evidence is being taken from food experts, and an entirely new idea for storage is being evolved. "We aim at having food stored in districts, under local control, with additional supplies under the control of the manufacturers, ready for releaso when required," said Mr. John S. Webb, Controller of the movement. "Thia stored food would be sold to the public only during a crisis at a casb pric- equal to those ruling now,' plus a very small percentage to cover interest on loans used to subsidise the manufacturers for supplying the food or holding it for distribution to district dumps "Rich people would not be able to buy more than poor people from the district control. "Food in the dumps or held by the manufacturers will be divided into eategories, such as (a) food that will keep for a very long period, (b) for two years, '(c) for six months. ' "Manufacturers will be asked to store six months' food under their own control, so that it can be put into eirculation -through ordinary channels should no crisis arise, and the store could be replenished from new stocks. "The Empire Movement means to do ali in its power to protect the interests of the existing food marlcet, and will work, wherever possible, through the normal trade systein. "We already have proinises of support from national advertisers, and will be pleased to hear from any other manufacturers, who should state what foods they supply, how long they will keep, and any other particulars whicb may prove useful to the proposed Board of Administration. "The Board, when complete, will eomprise leading producers and manufacturers of food suitable for storage, industrialists and technical advisers.
