Restriction of Hours of Work POSSIBLE LOSS OF CROPS - The overcoming of the difficulties of seasonal farming work which is likely to be jnterruptqd by weather, is aimed. at in a remit framed by the H.B, Farmers' Union at its monthly meeting in Hastings on Saturday. Members considered that the present restrictions, particularly in regard to harvosting and shearing, were too rigid. The cliairman, Mr. T. H. B. Priest, reviewed the restrictions upon seasonal work, particularly in harvesting where, if the 48 hours of work allowed by the award were eompleted in the first four days of the week, as it could be, it was not permitted to work on the remainder of the week, and if the 48 hours had not been eompleted, no work was permitted on a Saturday. It would readilv be seen that this restriction might easily result in the loss of erops. The meeting passed the following remit after a brief discussion; "In regard to seasonal work, such as the harvesting of crops, this meeting eonsidera that there should not be any restriction in regard to hours, but the mattef should be agreed upon between eniployer and employee.
