W.C.T.U. HASTINGS BRANCH HOLDS ANNUAL MEETING

The attendance at the annual meeting of the Hastings branch of the Women 's Christian Temperance Union was good. Mrs R. D. Sutherland conducted the devotional exercises, taking as her subjcct ' ' Courage, Confidence, and Communion." , The secretary, Mrs H. Buckingham, presented the annual report, which showed that loyal work was being done in all branches of the Union. The treasurer, Miss I. Mitehell, in the presentation of her balance-sheett showed an increase in membership with a slight credit balance. Reports were also received from the various supcrintendents, all of whom were congratulated on their suecessful year's work. The retiring officers were thansea ror the serviee they had rendered (some of them over a long period of years), and floral gifts were made as a slight token of appreciation, and the pianiste, Mrs Turner, received musical honours. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: — President Mrs J. Wilson; chief vice-presi-dent, Mrs T. J. Thompson; secretary, Mrs'H. Buckingham; treasurir, Mrs D. Osborne; superintendents, Mesdames E. Paul, M. Rae, M. McArthur, E. Rawlings, W. Adamson, J. Cameron, and R'. Sutherland, and Mrs A. Turner 1 pianiste. During the afternoon Mrs E. Banks, of Fremantle, Western Australia, was welcomed and gave greetings from the branch there, also from the Manly and Sydney Central branches, and was asked to convey greetings from Hastings - on her return. A resolution supporting the grand jury in their findings in regard fo liqnor at dance halls was passedt a copy to be sent to the Prime Minister and the local Member of Parliament. Afternoon tea served by the hostesses, Mesdames McArthur and Rawlings, was much appreciated, and the meeting closed with the Doxology.
