METHODIST LADIES' GUILD HOLD HAPPY MEETING
At the monthly meeting of the Methodist Ladies' Guild on Wednesday afternoon the grandmothers of the church and congregation were entertained in the young men's hall. The Rev. R. B. Gosnell occupied the ehair. He welcomed the guests of the afternoon, and later addressed the gathering on "Grandmothers I Have Known." Mr Gosnell paid a high tributo to their serviee in their homes and to ihe Church, many of them bemg among the pioneers in this country and in Australia. Opportunity" was taken during the afternoon to honour those who had served the guild and church during the past 50 years, and presentations were made to Mrs J. Garnett, who had been longest in association with the guild, Mrs Vesty, who vva.s the oldest visiting memher, and Mrs J. Allant who was the youngest grauduia present. Mrs P. Loach, on behalf of those present, handed Mrs Gosnell a beautiful bouquet, and in doing so thanked both Mr and Mrs Gosnell for their help to the guild during the year and wished them and happy and joyous Christmas. The hostesses were kept busy during the 1 tea-hour, when one and all joined in the conversation and social there. An apron stall, laden with dainty Christmas gifts, provei a popular 1 corner of the gaily-decorated Toom. Baskets of flowers and greenery gave the place a festive air, and those who contributed items chose songs which added to that feeling. Mrs Rees Kemp sang "The Holy Child" and "Home Sweet Home"; Mrs H. Loach "Christmas is Coming"; and Mrs C. Bartle, "Mother" . and "Mother McCree." Elocutionary items were contributed by Mrs M. Holmes. »
