TEST WICKETS
Complaint of Over-Prepara-tion SUPPORT FOR WARNER'S VIEW LONDON, Dec. 1. In supporting Sir P. F. Warner's criticism of over-prepared wickets, Mr. Fred Root, in a letter to the Daily Mail, suggests the appointment of a neutral wicket-preparer for all tests for the sake of uniformity. "H we have no check on the activi- I ties of skilful groundsmen it is a certainty that the four-day tests against Australia will be farcical,'' he adds. "Years of labour have turned wickets into grassless substances so artificial that it is absurd to call them turf." The Daily Mail's gossip-writer remarks that a neutral wicket-preparer is unlikely to be welcomed by regular. groundsmen, who would be scandalised at the prospect of outsiders operaring the precious turf they have nursed for years.
