Shearing Neaily Completed in Central H.B.
(From
WELLINGTON, Last Night. Good progress has been made with shearing in Central Hawke's Bdy, the weather having been favourablc. Almost all of the dry shecp have now been shorn, and a fair proportion of others also. About three-fourths of the shearing hits been completed in the Porangahau district. Fleeces have been eonsiderably lightof this year thap last, one sheepfarmer expressing the view that. whereas formerly 59 fleeces had made a bale of wool," 70 had been require^ this season. A good deal of wool had fallen from shcep, even in clear country, and numbers had bare necks and bellies. Though there has been aniple feed this season, it has been of a type suitable for" cattle and not for sheep, with the result that the growth of wool has reeeived a- set-back.
