Record - Assemblage at Anmial Event PRIZES PRESENTED Ample evidence of the keen interest parents take in the Parkvale Scliool and the children was afforded yesterday afternoon' when there was an exceptionally big crowd present for Parents' Day. A Maddisoh, chairman of the Hawke's Bay Education iioard, who wuS present, for the contiuued interest he displayed in the school. "Mr. Maddison was ohe of the hrst, if not' the hrst man to urge for milk to be eupplied to children in schools," said Mr. Stickland, "and it is pleasing to note tliat the milk-imschools scheme is now weil established, and that through his elforts the children to-day are 160 per cent. better off than they wer© this time last year. Parents and coinmittees owe Mr. Maddison a deep debt pf gratitude for the way he has looked after the children of Hawke's Bay." Mr. fcjtickiahd expressed appreciation of the ett'orts. of the headmaster, Mr. W. B. Roe, a^id the teaching staif, for tlie donscientious manner in which they had trained the children and also for the 'very fine work they had done ori behalf of the pupils outside of actual school hours, lt was a matter of congratulation to all concerned that there should have been practically a 99 per cent. pass in the examinations at the school this year ; especially when it was remembered that, during the past four years, there had been as many as 30 changes in the staif. After reminding those pupila who were leaving to always remember the school motto "Dare to be True," Mr. titickland concluded by extending to all the compliments of the season. The presentation of the dux medal and other awards was made by the Mayor, Mr. G. A. Maddison, who said that it was gratifying indeed to know •that success and efficiency had been achieved by the school during the year, despite the handicap that was imposed by the epidemic that prevailed in the early part of tiie year. This was made possible by the co-operation of the teachers, the parents, and the Press, and he had been assured by the seniqr officers of the Hawke's Bay Education iSoard that the eihoiency of the scliooi had not been retarded as the result oi the epidemic. In fact the efficiency was as high. and great as in any previous year of the school. At the culmination of another iinpressive year, iq. which the children had gained in strength, both mentally and piiysically, he reminded pupiis and parents that tlie school oecupied an nonoUred and high position amoijg educational institutions in New Zealand and he hoped that those pupils who were leaving would be iilled with pride and show appreciation of the guidance that had been given them av ibe school.

Mr, Maddison assured parents that, from his intimate knowledge of educational affairs in this district, they had eyery reason to be satished that they liad a competent iieadmaster and teaching staif at tlie school, and that the children had received good education and right character guidance.
