PARENTS' LEAGUE
High S^hool Organisation May Go Into Recess RAISED NEARLY £800 4-fter being in existence for just over nine and a-half years there is a distinct possibility of the Hastings High School Parents' League going into recess. Lack of a definite objective, y?ith no opportunity to ,hold together its members because of that fact, is one of the reasons advanced for the future nonfunctioning of the organisation. A meeting of the executive was held last evening when the resignation of the isecretary, Mr V. A. Thomson, was received and accepted with profound regret, and it was decided not to take any steps in the meantime to find a successor, members expreSsing the opinion that apparently the services of the league were no longer required. It was Teported at the meeting that the conference held among those interested in the school had decided not to proceed further with the proposal to hold another garden fete at the school, oppositTon to this ;SUggestion coming from the Old Pupils' Aesociation and the Board of Governors. Since the 'league' was established it has contrib'uted only a 5 few shilliiigs less than £800 to the school, the principal items - in this regard being £550 to the assembly haU, £100 for motor and horse mowers, £90 for the purchase of library books, periodicals and pictures, £40 for ground improvements and £14 for school criclcet and football caps. In addition the league members have made themselves responsible for the tsupervision of 1 the ref reshment and catering arrangements on Sports Day, Parents' Day and the arnraal pupils' social evenings. The league has had only two honorary secretaries since its inception, Mr E.' A. Murley filling the offiee for the first year, and he was succeeded by Mr Thomson; who has now severed his association with the OTganisation in that capacity.
