HEAVY TRAFFIC FEES
Allocation in Hawke's Bay Area AGREEMENT EXTENDED Eor the first timo since November 30 1934, representatives of counties -ina town boards in the joint Hawke's Bay trafiic area conferred yesterday in Napier on the allocation of heavy tiafllc. fees and other matters of mutual 111terest. Mr E. B. Logan, chairmaii of the Hawke's Bay County Council presided. The Woodville, Waipawa, Wairoa, Waipukurau, Patangata, Weoer, Dannevirke and Hawke's Bay Counties and the Havelock North Town Boaro were represented. In regard to the heavy .trafiie feoa. it was decided that the method of allocation in vogue for the last three year* and unanimously agreed upon at tiie previous conference, should be extcinied for a further year. Industrial awards were also discussed but no action was taken. Dealing with the puestion of driv. ers' licences, the conference decidol that, if the intention of the Govcrument to remove these from the coutrol of counties was proeeeded with, n strong protest should be entered, as it was considered from the point of viev? of public convenience, that appJications could be dealt with more adequately by the existing county machinery than by a department which had many othelicences and registrations to attend to at the sarae period. The suggested new arrangement would also mean a substantial loss of revenue to the local authorities. It was agreed that, in future, a conference should be held every year, preferably in October.
