WAlPUKtJKAU, Last Night. Three Waipilkuratl pilots were successful iit passing tests for their A pilot'S licence.at the Waipukurau ,aerodroiiie this mo'rning. They were Messrs E. R. Perkiqs, S. Miirphy and W. Oliver. who were exariiiiied by PlightLieutenant Burrell, of the Boyal New Zealand Air Eorce. BatemaU and Instruetor E. E. Harvie, was used for the purppse of the test. The eliib's Horfi'et Moth, ZK-ACPj was piloted froisi Hastings by Plying-Offiefer E. A. Baker, and the exairiiiier arrived in the Air Porce's Percival Gtill maehine. The test feonsists of describing three figure 8's at a height of 800 feet, in addition to makirig a good landing and taking off agaih to elimb to 2000 feet hnd descend ahd land withoUt the use of the engine. The landiilg of the planes from a height of 2000 feet with the engines shut off was watched with considerabje interest by people in town. Candidates were exainined also oii their knowledge bf aeroplanes and the rules of air iiavxgktioh. Before a candidate can be examined he mjxst have dbne more than five hours' solo flying. Keen interest is being taken in flyxrig in Waipukurau and a number of others are at pf esent training.
