LONDON, Nov. In one of the poorest heavyweighl boxing contests seen in London foi months, Maurice Strickland (New Zea land) outpointed Delaney (Canadaj over ten rounds. The bout was ai elimination ' contest for the Britist Empire title. Delaney attacked early, but Strickland sooxi retaliated, exchanging hard punishment to the body. Tbe pace speeded up iu the third round, when Strickland upper-cut Delaney, but hesitated and missed an opportunity to follow up_ the advantage. Strickland 's right, which was most effective against Neusel, was not working properly, missing continually. Lraining cohiidence, Strickland began to score with his left. Delaney attacked viciously 'at the end of the fourth round and agaiii rattled Strickland with a left in the nfth. The fight after this round was so inactive that the crowd clapped ironically. The referee, before the seventh, spoke to the contestants and apparently asked for more action, but there was little response. The tenth round began amid ironical cheering, producing little moro than useless clinging to the ropes. Delaney landed two hcavy xights, but Strick•land fought out from the corner. The crowd booed loudly before the announcement of the decision. A doctor who was summoned to Strickland 's dressing room after the fight, advised him to rest. Strickland complained of throat trouble and said he was sick before the fight. Earr, who was introduced in the ring before the fight, shook hands with the fighters, but did not extend the compliment to Broadribb (his late manager), who seconded Strickland. f In the preliminary Phil Zwick (the American featherweight) fought five of eight.rounds against Jimmy Vaughan with "a fractured left arm. After losing on points Zwick collapsed in the dressing room and was taken to the hospital.
