Mr. J. A. Campbell, Director of Horticulture, of Wellington, who has been on a brief visit to Hastings, returned south by car this morning. Mr. W. Benzies, secretary of the New Zealand Export Fruit Control Board, who has been visiting Hastings, returned to Wellington this morning. Mr. E. C. Isaacs, of Dunedin, has been appointed assistant manager of the swimming teamTto represent New Zealand at the Empire Games in Sydney next year. Mr and Mrs C. Carrell, of Hastings, who have been on a holiday visit to the South Island, have returned home. Mr Carrell, who is borough building inspector, resumed duty yesterday. Mr. J. E. Fow, who has been Mayor of Hamilton for over 17 years, and a • member of thc Hamilton Borough Council for 30 years, has intimated that he does not intend seeking reelection as Mayor at the next election in May. Mr. A. L. Burke, representative of Messrs. J. and H. Goodwins, Ltd., of London, who is on a tour of New Zealand, left Hastings this morning for Taupo. He is accompanied by Mr. Charles Goodwin, junior, an assoeiate of the firm who handles the raajor portion of New Zealand 's export fruit. Sergeant H. C. Eaven, of the Feilding Agricultural High School, has been selected as the best cadet in the Central Military Command for 1937. The command covers the districts of Wellington, Wairarapa, Palmerston North, Wanganui and Taranaki. With this distinguished honour Sergeant Eaven is awarded the William Eobert Friar memorial plate.
