PARKVALE SCHOOL

Meeting of Committee The monthly meeting of the Parkvale School Coipmittee was held last evening, Mr. J. Stickland presiding over Messrs. J. H. Philpott, H. Spence, D. Henderson, H. .Cameron (hon. sec.) and W. B.'Roe (headmaster). Gongratulations are • to be extended to Miss Bain, infant mistress, and Mr. O. L. Arthur, upon their improvement in grade. The inspectors' report was placed before members of the committee, and various members congratulated . the headmaster and staff upon the exceilence oi the report on the year's work. Regarding a learn-to-swim campaign, the headmaster reported that he had arranged with the staff for a pro gramme to be mapped out for tuition to be given the non-swimming pupils by members of the staff, the committee and older, competent pupils. The chairman reported upon the progress that had been made with the ronovation of the baths, and said that the work had been Completed. Lights had been installed and already satisfactory patronage had been accorded the baths. He had arranged with Mi. E. Riley, headmaster of the Havelock North School, to send a team to Paikvale to take part in an inter school carnival.- — It was decided to hohl this carnival on Thursday, December 9th. Arrangements regarding Parent's Hay next Thursday were discussed. the chairman reporting upcn the meeting of the - ladies • and motheis oi' pupils, who had agreed t0 supervise the aftei-noon-tea arrangements. The monthly report of the headmaster stated that the attendance was still only fair owing to earlv summer complaints among the pupils. Two most enjoyable cricket matches had been played against Hereworth School,

and both. had been won by Parbvala, Thanks were due to the Rev. R. B. Gosnell, Mr. Stickland, Mr. Cameroq and Mr. Buchanan for providing trans port facilities. As this was the last meeting of tln year opportunity was taken by th headmaster to extend to the committe on behalf of the staff, the complimenti of the season and these were reeiprw cated.
