Growers Must Meet Market Requirements LONDON COMMENT

(Eeceived 29, 12.15 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 28. F. W. Moore, Ltd., in reviewing tho 1937 fruit season, say: "Tho quality of the fruit has been variable. New Zealand apples have not equalled their former standards. The pear outlook, which appeared to be so bright, has been vitiated by poor shipments. It is evident that the shipping companies have still to master the carriage of pears." Moore 's suggest that the New Zealand and Australian interests should examine the whole pear situation with regard to varieties, packing, capacity of the market, and other features. Commenting on the outlook for 1938, Moore 's say: "It is impossible to regard it with unqualifled optimism. New Zealand and Australian fruit will not meet competition from stored English fruit, as the British apple crop is light, " but competition from other sources, including the Argentine, Portugal, the Italian Tyrol, and the Balkan States, is increasing. Therefore it is essential that New Zealand and Australian growers should study the requirements of the market and especially not send large dessert apples. The popular calf is for the 2i-2£-inch sizes." Moore 's draw attention to the likelihood of increased competition from America as a result of the AngloAmerican trade pact.
