HOUSE TO ADJOURN BY DECEMBER 10

-Press Association.)

"Not a Minute Later," Says Mr. Savage MIDSUMMER RECESS

(Bv Telegrraph-

WELLINGTON, This Day. No difficulty should be experienced by the -House of Kepresentatives in completing this year's legislative programme in timo to adjourn fo? tte mid-summer recess by December 10 oi even sooner. As a result of last week's proeeedings there has been a substantial clearanee from the order paper, and the remaining business should oecasion no undue delay. When the House Tesumes to-day, com sideration will be given to the Public Works Statement and the Publie Woiks estimates. The Supplementary Estimates anl the Appropriation Bill will be introduced this week, and three Bills which have been referred to committees — the Electoral Amendment Bill, the Petrol oum Bill and the Mining Amendment Bill — will also come before the House. No defiuite date has yet been iixed for the resumption Of the session early next year.- The Prime Minister, Mr Savage, stated on Saturday that this would be determined largely by the amount of progress made by the committees investigating the national superannnation schemes. TJntil he had consulted with these committees he would not be in a position to ffx the date for resumption. He thought Parliament would resume not later than the second weelc in February. The actual date would be announced before the adjournment was taken. "One thing is certain," added Mr Savage, "and that is that Parliament is not going to sit one minute after} December 10. It is not good for busti ness people to have Parliament sitting up to the eve of Christmas as it was on some occasions in the past, nor is it fair to members themselves to keep them here so late in the year."
