A DAY IN THE OPEN
Fine Weather Results in Week-end Exodus SWIMMING & HAYMAKING Fine weather again prevailed in Hastings, Napier and the surrounding districts during the week-end and eneouraged thousands of people to spend their time outdoors. Yesterday the beaehes were thronged with people wlio were making the most of the opportunity to obtain a "tanning," and enjoy a dip in the ocean. Inland resorts and places of interest along river banks, also were very populhr and attracted big numbers of people. Parties who were out at tho beaehes early yesterday were able to indulge in swimming in the sutf to their heart's content, but with high tide shortly after midday there was not the same inducqment, and in consequence, many people merely indulged in a short "dip," and contented themselves with basking in the glorious sunshine. Amateur fishermen were in good numbers at Haumoana, but their patience was poorly rewarded, though several parties who went out in launches returned during the day with some fair catches of fish. Te Awanga and Westshore attracted their usual patronage. Boating on the lake at the former resort is incrcasingly popular and a very pleasant time was spent by several parties who found a good stretch of water available. As usual Cape Kidnappers, "with its gannet sanctuary, attracted a good crowd who made Clifton beaeh their heauauarters. However, many car loads of people did not proceed further than the beach, being content to inspect the progress that has been made with the dividing-off of the area which is to be set side for the Clifton Domain. The fenee line on the side of the hills has been pegged out and iri places the fence has been erected. Proposals for the development of this area include the ercction of conveniences and a community fireplace or two along the beaeh. The country roads had their -fair share of vehicular traffic, and hundreds of picnic parties were to be seen enjoying their outing along the watersheds of the various rivers and streams. Many townspeople also called upon countrjr friends and spent a happy day in the fields haymaking.
