Construction to be Started in Near Future INCREASE IN SUBSIDY

WAIPUKURAU, TMs Day. A decision to proceed immediately with the construction of the swimming baths at Waipukurau was reached at a meeting last evening of the executive of the Waipukurau Swimming Baths' Association. The executive,. before its ordinary meeting, had a discussion in committee with members of the Waipukurau Borough Council. , The -executive received Mr H. M. Christie's letter advising that the Labour Department had offered to increase from 50 per cent. to 75 per cent. the subsidy on wages paid to unemployed married men engaged on the job. It was deeided to begin work on the baths construction as soon as possible on the site originally chosen. Messrs Davies and Phillips of Hastings, were appointed architects. A letter of thanks was sent to the Labour Department and Mr Christie was accorded a vote pf thanks for his services in- the matter.
