N.Z. Cricketer in Adelaide. A recent acquisition to Adelaide cricket is F. Kerr, of Dunedin, who scored three centuries for Carisbrook last season and who has represented Otago in the Plunket Shield series. Only just 21 years of age, Kerr's best effort in representative matehes was his 48 against E. R. T. Holmes' English team. The New Zealand- cricketers now in Australia paid a special visit *to see Kerr batting when they were in Adelaide. He opened for his club, Glenelg, and scored 16 in 16 minutes. N.Z. Pole-vaulter. The New Zealand pole-vaulter, N. W. Mulvey, is at present training in Sydney. Mulvey has cleared 11ft. 6in., and there is a chance of his being selected, into the New Zealand Empire Games team,, If he can surmount 12ft. he hopes to make the team. He is vaulting with the Randwick-Ken-sington Club in Sydney and is picking up points from the Sydney champions. Walker Cup Match 1938. Subject to the agreement between the St. Andrews Town Council and the championship committee of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club regarding gate money, the Walker Cup match between Great Britain and America in the spring of 1938 will be played over the old course, St. Andrews. Loiig Cycling. The Australian cyclist Ossie Nicholson has passed the 51,200 miles mark in his attempt to put up better flgures for the current 12 months than Rerii Menzies, France, who is making the attempt in England. Bpth riders have passed the world's 12 months recprd mileage of 45,3831, which was held by W, Greaves, of England. Nicholson is still upward of 60 miles ahead Of his French rival, who is now facing the fogs of England's early winter— conditions which have severely tested the . Australian. League Player Returns to N.Z. . R. Brown, former Canterbury Rugby threequarter, has returned to Christchurch, after playing throughout the 1936-37 season for the Bar-. row League Club in England. F. T. French is a member of the same club and other Canterbury meni 'istill playing in the same code are G. Jj. Innes, R. K. King and R. Hazelhurst. All are fit and well, says Brolvn, and very popular with their club supporters. Like others, they found that the Northern Union game was the reverse of picnic football; a man had to put his best into it, and then he made headway. A Hectic Cycle Race. t S. Gibson will not readily forget the Colac to Melbourne road cycle race held in Victoria last month. Starting with a handicap of 27 miputes, he rode for seven miles by himSelf until he was overhauled. Then he was mixed up in a smash, but was able to remount. In the accideht he brokfe his collarbone, but this did not deter him. He struggled along over the last 10 miles steering his bicycle witli one hand. As he crossed the finish-ing-line he collapsed. He was 15th., and won a prize for the first man to finish with a handicap of 25 minutes or more. Having completed his task he went to hospital to have his collarbone set. The Art of Putting. Many people find that it aids their sense of direction in putting if they point their left elbow toward the hole as it seems to help them to keep the club head running on a straight line, says an Australian golf writer. There is no need to have a pronounced bend at the eibow. The thing is more of a mental impression of pointing at _the hole than a physicai fact. A bend that is too pronounced is liable to lock the left wrist. It allows the club to go back, but stops it on the follow through almost immediately after impact with the ball. An exaggerated thrust with tlus elbow is worth remembering, however, as an antidote to pulling putts to the left - of the hole. 1934 One-mile Champion. The national one mile track champion of 1934, E. Forne, formerly of Napier, has been running with great consistency since his transfer to Hamilton recently and has won no fewer than four successive wins from the scratch mark in open middle distance events conducted by the Hamilton Athletic Ciub this season. Built .on the light side and possessed of a powerful and springy stride, Forne has a style ideaily suited to mile and halfmile events. He scored a meritorious j vvin in the 1000 yards handicap, covering the full distance in 2m. 17 4s5s. He was again' successful, carrying'off the three-quarter-mile contest in 3m. 10s. It is not .yet. known whether Forne intends to concentrate on the 880 yards or the mile, but by his recent performance it appears that the longer distance may be his best. Australian League's Tour. The Australian Rugby League team which was defeated in the second test match by England, has failed to live up to the reputation of former touring sides. Previous Australian teams, however, have always found England a hard cjmbination to beat, and since the pion-.-or tour in the 1908-9 season, England has won 23 tests and Australia 11. Three matehes have been drawn. Following are the results on the present tour:— v. Leigh, won, 11—. 9; v. STork, 37 — 0; v. Lancashire, Jost, 5—7; v. Halifax, lost, 2—12; v. Yorkshire, won, 8—4; v. Wakefield, . won, 17 — 10; v. Rochdale, won, 6—0; v. Englapd, lost, 4 — 5; v. Widnes, drew, 11—11; v. Hull, won, 22 — 12; v. Bradford, won, 19—6; v. Salford, lost, 8— 11; v. Wigan, won, 25—23; v. Oldham won, 10—6; v. England, lost, 3 — 13. The pretty girl approached the first tee and waved to the young man about to drive off. Hullo, Bob, darling. Would you like to play a round with me?" "You bet I would, Mary," he replied. "Leave your sticks with the pro. and let's start with a drink at the clubhouse."
