COURT BOUT FIRST
There was a legal matter with a manager to fix up before Maurice Strickland, the New Zealand heavyweight, took the ring against. Walter Neusel, the German, but it was a tame show compared with the controversy and demonstration after the German had been awarded the decision on points on October 19. Reginald Hughes, boxing manager, of Keswick Road, East . Putney, brought on action to restrain Strickland from enterlng into any contracts withoUt his consent. It was claimed that Strickland was qnder contract to Hughes and that tlie Stri eklan d -Neu s el contest was a breach of that contract. As soon as the judge took his seat Mr. Alexander Grant, K.C. (for Strickland), said that if the parties were given a few minutes to talk the matter over the Court might not be troubled with it further. Mr. Justice Simonds then retired, remarking that counsel could see him in his room if they wished. Returning to Court after about an. hour, Mr. Grart said that the fight would takc place as arranged, adding: "We pay int.o Court £400, which would be, roughiy, Mr. Hughes' share of the proceeds if he succeeds in tht action." . —
