HAMILTON, Nov. 23. The advantage of central egg-grading in bringing about orderly egg marketing in the Dominion was emphasised by the Eev. W. F. Stent, of Carterton, president of the New Zealand Poultry Producers' Federation, when addressing members of the .Waikato branch of .the federation in Hamilton last night. The vice-president of the federation, Mr. J. W. McGlinchy, of Christchurch, also spoke of the beneflts of such a scheme, while other speakers were Mr. A. J. Severn, secretary of the federation, and Mr. A. E. Knowfes, chairman of the New Zealand Poultry Board. Mr, L. G. Marquand, president of the Waikato branch ,of the federation, presided. Mr. Stent appealed to the meeting to assist the Government as much as the federation in all matters pertaining to the interests of the indu3try. Whatever scheme the Government devised in xegard to an orderly market it should have the loyal support of producers. State control .of egg-grading was preferable to ,privately-owned floors, which, althdugh indirectly paid for by the producers, would never be producercontrolled. • Mr. McGlinchy said the executive had approached * the Government and asked that central grading floors be established in the four main centres, but the Auckland centrS had protested against this scheme. This lack of cooperation among producers was to be deplored. After discussion and addresses by other speakers the following resolution was passed by 10 votes to one: — "That this meeting request the Director of Marketing to establish a central egggrading floor in Hamilton."
