NAPIER HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

Final Meeting of the Year The tenth mmthly meeting of the Napier Horticultural Society was held on Monday ovening, where there was an attendance of sixty. . The report ahd balance sheet of the recent Rose Show was presented by the secretary, and results were considered to be' quite satisfaetory, though there was room for improvement in entrics in several seetions. Various proposals of a construetive nlature were brought •forwaTd for the improvement of the various clacses, and these were noted. Mr. G. W. Corner was the chief speaker, and memhers were most interested in his subject. Growers. of Chrystnthemums were given many further helpful hints by Mr J. W. Olphert in his talk, and Mr J. Walker, with several very. fine specimens of new and rare cacti, gave a very interCsting talk on this subject. Tne spealcers were all accordcd a hearty vote of thanis. The final competition for the year .was held' and resulted as follows: — Best bloom: Mrs J. W. Grant 1, Mr Merritt and Mr C. D. Wilson (equal) 2, Mr Merritt 3. Best vase flowers: Mrs R. Holt 1, Mr P. J. Lueas 2, Mr R. G. Wilson 3. The winners of the trophies for most aggregate pointS for the wholO ^ear, were as follows: — ^Best hloom, Mrs E. ' * Holt and Mr E. Lynam (equal) l.'Best vase flowers, Mr R. G. Wilson 1.
