Values on Par to Easiei for Fat Cattle STORTFORD LODGE SALE Steady selling was the order of the day on the fat cattle market at to-day's stock' sale at Stortford Lodge, when a moderate entry came forward in this section. Competition was welj mamtained at rates which were on a par to slightly easier on last week's rates. Best lines of beef appeared' to be least affected, while plainer sorts «vere inclined to drag, a few pens of thiS class of cattle failing to meet the market. The quality of the entry was good generally, top lines of cows and heifers . being prime, well-grown cattle which met with a good demand. Best- cows made to £10 15/-, while top price for heifers was £10 17/6. Cows and heifers predominated in the yarding, bullocks being but sparsely represented. Station drafts of fat cattle on offer included entries from Mr. H. B. "Williams, Turihaua, Gisborne, • and Mr. Humphrey Bayly. Mr. Williams's 'entry was confined to a few select.pens of A.A. cows and heifers,- while the draft on account of Mr. Bayly, also of female beef, gave buyers a good range from lighter sorts of cows and heifers to weighty, well-finished pens. Selected entries and prifces paid, from which an idea of the etate 'of the market may be obtained, are as follow; COW PRICES A. singla Shorthorn cow, well grpwa and weighty, met the market at £8 7/6. In the same pen a plain Shorthorn 'cow made £4. | A single P.A. cow, on account of Mr S. B. Williams, Gisborne, well grown and weighty, sold at £9 5/-, a further beast making £10 15/-. A single well-grown and weighty Shorthorn cow, medium prime, made £8 1/-. A further two Shorthorns realised £7 15/- aiid £4. -A medium grown and finished Shorthorn eow made £6 '6/-. Two A.A. cows, on- account of Mi Humphrey Bayly, well grown medium finished cattle, Tealised £8 14/-. * Two Hereford cows, dehorned, on aseount of Mr Bayly, well grown and medium finished, good weights, 'sold at £8 15/-. • ' Further pens on account of ■ the s'ama ' vendor made £7 12/6, £7 16/-, £8 1/- ' and £7. *. ; • ' 4. single weighty Shorthorn cow, well ' grown and finished, sold out at' £8 ' 10/% ' . The final pen of Turihaua heifers; three prime quality A.A. cattle, sold out at £1(1 17/6. A single Hereford Heifer, medium grown, Ijght finish, made £6 10/-. A Shorthorn heifer in the same pen Tealised £0. - Offered on account of Mr Huinphfey BayJy, - a single Shorthorn heifer medium grpwn and finished, made £7. A lighter Herei'crd selling . at £6. A further pen on account of Mr Humphrey Bayly, four nicely growu, medium prime Hereford crossbred heifers, nice quality cattle, all dehorned. met the market at £9 14/-. A pair of A.A. heifers, on account of Mr Bayly, realised £9 7/-, these being nicely grown medium prime cattle. Two dehorned Herefords in the same pcn, lighter in finish, sold at £8. A prime quality Hereford runner met with good competition to sell at £5 12/6. A further runner made £5 5/-, while a runner heifer sold at £3 7/6.
