Large Motor-Body Building Works Destroyed £15,000 DAMAGE -

AUCKLAND, This Day. One of the spectacular fires in the history of Auckland early this morning destroyed the motor-body building works of Cavanagli and Co., in Symonds street. The damage is estimated at £15,000. Cav,anaghs is divided into two departments, a show-xoom and a repair sliop, fronting Symonds street, near Grafton Bridge, and a larger building shop at 'the rear. Fire broke out in tlie shop at the rear. Drums of teinpering oil exployed violently, and columns of flame rose high over Grafton gully. Among the contents of the worlcs were eight motortrucks and a large petrol tanker which were in the course of construetion. Several other cars, including a big hus belonging to Mr. J one's, of Te Euiti, which was undergoing repairs, were also destroyed. Firemen, with four fire engines, f ought a losing fight against the flames, as the fire was burning fiercely when they arrived. Only the shell of the structure remains this morning. A number of employees lost kits of tools valued from £25 to £150. The front show-room and repair shop were undamaged.
