Plane Dives Into Sea OCCUPANTS ESCAPE

WELLINGTON, This Day. H.M.S. Leander's amphibian had been at Eongotai aerodrome for testing and overhaul purposes and was returning to the ship when an aecident occurred. The pilot was Lieutenant O. W. B. Nicholls and two B.A.F. ratings were in the machine. The only damage was that the upper wing was torn a trifle in the crash. The launch of the Leander was stam ding by in case of emergency, and rushed to the npturned machine, while assistance was forthcoming from a naval cutter some distance out for training purposes. The amphibian, on striking the water, first nosed in and then tilted backwards quite slowly, enabling the occupants to climb out without difficulty. They were taken to the ship in the launch which returned and lent a hand in securing a rope to the plane, which was pulled to the ship 'a .iide and gpt aboard. »t nooit.-.
