Ruakiture Meeting

The recent meeting of the Ruakituri Women 's Institute was presided over by the president, Mrs. W. Berry. In her address, Mrs. Berry welcomed a visitor^ Miss I. Franklin, who has lately come to the district. Miss Spence suggested that to every meeting the best flower from the garden should be brought for exhibition Dy the members, and it was decided to do this. Mrs. D. H. Evans suggested that a garden party be held at WaikateaStation in January in aid of the Plunket Society. Arrangements were made for the children 's Christmas tree to be held on December 11. Following the Goldqn Thread, Mrs. H. C. Nolan gave a very enter taining talk on the pleasures and beauties of Lake Tekapo, following which Mrs. E. C. Winder demonstrated very clearly the maliing of silver-spoon pictures. Four impromptu speeches caused a great deal of laughter. They were: "Should husbands and wives holiday' together?" "Is surburban life pr4ferable to life in the countryf"; "Do I prefer poor relations or rich?"; and "Men as cooks?" The tales were given by Mrs. Evan's, Miss Highet, Mrs S. Spence and Mrs. Davis respectively. Mrs. Butler was the winner of the competition, three varieties of sweets. - Tea was served. by Mrs. Nolan and Miss Highet, and community singing brought a very happy meeting to a close.
