Military Camps on the Showground
••ONLOOKER,"
Sir, — In tiie ordinary way, l would quito agree with the seiitinients expressed by Dr. Oromptou, but i think tiio Government deserves very little sylupathy over military matters. Talce the instance cf a railway clerk (Government job) when he applicd for a fortnight's leavc of absence to atteud a military camp at Napier tvvo years ago, and, although willing to forego either his wages or annual leavc, resigned his position in order to attend the camp, If the Government does not set an example to other employers, how ean any sympathy be expected from i'w general iiublie ? As a member of the Agricultural Society, i think the coinmittee did the
right thing in refusing the application for the use of the grounds, as the risk of damage is far too great. — Yours, etc.,
