FINAL SUNDAY SESSION
2ZL Closes Down Next Thursday SERVICE TO DISTRICT The eall sign of, radio station 2ZL was flashed through the atmosphere yesterday for the last time on a Sunday, for yesterday morning 's seS'sion was the final programme to be staged by the station on a Sunday morning, before the station passes into the hands of tbe G overnment Broadcasting . Service. For seven years 2ZL has given yeoman service to the community and, though its sessions "were not long, or frequent, it filled in an important part of the: broadcast service to listeners, not only in Hawke's Bay, but to many ot those outside the province. Its two weekly sessions, Sunday morning and Thursday evening, were particulariy popular, and thousands of letters have been received by the management expressing appreciation of the programme* that have been broadcast. Yesterday rbornihg's session was the last of the Sunday programmes as it
is the intention of the present owner, Mr John Ilolden, to' Hand over the station to the Government at the end of. this week. Only one more session will be given over the air from thestation in its present capacity,. and that is on Thursday night, when there will be the usual children 's session and tl^e customary programme that followa. Then will come the final signing-off fof all time of Station 2ZL, Hastings. It is not known what steps the Government Has taken to provide listener* with a substitute programme,. for, though 2ZH, Napier is now a National station, it does not broadcast at present during the hours that the air was occu-. pied by 2ZL. Arrangements have been made, however, for the continuation of the 2ZL childfen's sessions through the Napier station and, though this session next Thursday evening will be given from the studio of the now passing station in Park road, in future it will be given from the special studio secured in the old Heretaunga Club rooms ia Heretaunga street and. transmitted through 2ZH by means of a land-lin*^ from Hastings to Napier. The new. 5 k.v. sta, tion for Hawke '» Bay will be funetioning' in due course and there is conjecture already as to what this station will be called. A suggestion has ' been made that it be called 2YHB, thereby linking up the station with the National " Y" stations, and at the same time identifying th* station with the province.
