"THE FAT AND THE LEAN"
Laurel and Hardy" have more nicknames than any pther' players on the screen. Throughout Latin countries they are famous as "E1 Gordo E1 Flacco," meaning "The Fat and the Lean." In the Baltic States they are "Dick und Dof," the translation being "Fat and Dumb." In Turkey they are known as "Sisman ve Zaif," and Sweden knows them as "Helan och Halvant" which means the first big glass and the tsecond smaller one. The two comedians, Laurel, hailing from England, and Hardy, from Atlanta, Georgia, are the . greatest of friends and partners, "The sequenee we do with Sharon Lynne in 'W'ay Out West,' " says Stan Laurel, "was worked out spontan'eously between the three of ub. Until I met Hardy on ihe Hal Roach lof, and we found each other to be congenial foils, I was a mediocre success."
