The asseoibly hall of .thc Napier Gii-ls ' ; High Sehool Nas filled when p.upils froVn the studio of Miss Winifred MeCarthy presented their annual invitational . recital. The stage was tagtefully decorated by pupils with masse'a of white peonies; and red antirrhinunj arranged with maple foliage, bowls of roses and sweet peas. being placed' below stage. The classical programme presented was very well chosen, and the students interpreted each item with marked abili,ty and expression. Although oi varying ages and degfrees of proiiciency,' their work was of 'an unusuaily ... high standard throughout, and was enhanced by correet deportment. Th4 juniors proceeded with care, testifying to the -thoroughness of groundwork. Extreinely pleasing and quite professional was - the .worlt of. the . senior students.* Severn! piano duos' wero featured, and the timing was most excellent. The final item, a duo, waR brilliantly played. by the Misses MeCarthy and Thelma Eddy. , The Girls' High School-Glee Clpb and 2ZH Choir assisted. Both are trained by Miss MeCarthy. - ; , . The two eifiicult -numbers sung by the Q-lee Ciub'wore a delight to listen to, and the nudience hearttly . sliowtd their appreeiation. Very sweet indeed was the small 2ZH choir, both itenis being sung with great expression. Diiring the interyal Mr. H. L. Harston, honorary local repreesntativo of the Royal Schools of Music, who was preesnt on behalf of the associatud board to present certificates to the pupils, said that six .different grudes of music was a big nndertaking froci one studjo, and only a ver/ capable tjsacher could do it. There wero 17,000 teachers : connected with the buard throughout the 'world and entries -were considerable, and as far as Napier was concerned entries constituted a record.
