Appeal Dismissed in Slander Action The appeal of Harry Lionel Harlcer, ^layor of Wairoa, against the decision of Mr Walton S.M., allowing Charles J. P. Drewitt £50 damages for slande: on accbunt of an allegedly maliciocp and damaging comment on a repovt Drewitt, as eleetncal engineer, had submitted to the Wairoa Electric Powe. Board, was dismissed with £9 9/- eosf.t in a reserved judgment which was roceived in Napier yesterday from Ali Justice Ostler, who heard the appeal at the recent Suprcme ^ourt session in Napier. The judgment stated that the words used by Harker were capable of a do famatory meaning, that the Magistrato had been jusiified in fmding malico iis in the evidence before him; and iinally, that as the attaclc was made on respondent in his professional capacity as engineer to the board, respondent was entitled to the damages awarded with1 out proof , pf any, eppciali.damagie..
