Ball for King Leopold A THOUSAND GUESTS ' (Eeceived 19, 8.45 a.m.) LONDON, Nov. 17. ' Three Kings danced to the music ©f a jazz band at Buckingham Palace where Their Majesties honoured King Leopold of, Belgium with a Court ball. King George of Greece was amohg the 1000 guests. Eor the first time in the history of court ceremonihl, a jazz band was used instead of military ,bands, and for the first time the King allowed meja to wear evening dress instead of uniforms. The drab .black of the men 's evening dress set off more strongly the brilliant jewels and dresses worn by the many Processes and Grand Duchesses present. Their Majesties danced fox trots, but numerous old waltzes were included in the programme. King Leopold, in acknowledging the toast proposed by King George at the btate Banquet at Buckingham Palace, sa'd that he was deeply touched by the reierence made by King George to the cjose friendship between their dead iatliers. "The sorrows that have befallsn your family and mine, grievofis as they are, have frvged a further link in the mutuai sympathy and friendship beiween our Eoyal Houses, and through that between ouv two peoples," said King Leopold. "The British Empire, besides being a guardian of peace, can provide in other ways inspiration and fine example. Your age-long traditions and your devotion to liberty, which does not. exclude respect for authority, tlio trust which you rCposa in the best men among you, your grea- familiea whr. serve ch.j State fmai generation to generation — all these arj examplea from which eiher people? would do wei! to l6a-r.. "Your constitutional system, the princjples of which are to be found also iD our own, has enabled the British people to enjoy an era of tranquility and well-being and yet at the same time to make those social and pplitical adjustments which the new age requiTcs."
