MRS. E. C. M. MELLSOP
Tke death kas oecurred of Mrs Emily Clementine Marguerate Mellsop, relict of tke lat-e Harold Chrisp Mellsop, proprietor of Brent's Batkgate House from 1923 to 1928 who predeceased ker about eigkt years ago, states a Press Association message from Rotorua. Tke. lato Mrs Mellsop was born in Australia and came to New Zealand at an earJy age witk lier parents, who toolc up farming in tke Auckland dis.trict. Slic- was one of tke first women in tke Dominion to secure a Master of Arts degree, and subsequently was lady prlncipal of Nelson Girls College a.n'd W anganui Girls ' College, leaving the latter position about 40 years ago to marry tke late Mr Mellsop. Even after her retirement from tke teaching prr.f ession ske still continued to act as examiner for several girls' colleges. •Ske toolc a keen interest in golf and for a period was secretary of the Mauawatu Ladies' Golf Club and for 15 years secretary to the New Zealand Ladies' Golf'Union. She continued this interest on settling in Rotorua and in 1936 was made the first life member of the Rotorua Ladies' Golf Club.
