Kereru Meeting

The Kereru Women's Institute held the November meeting in the district hall on Saturday last. There was a good attendance of members and three visitors. Mrs L. R. Averill, president, welcomed the visitors, and the 'meeting opened with the institute song and ereed. The roll call was ' 1 suggestions for the Christmas tree and jiarty," after which an interesting letter from the institute 's linlc in Sussex was read. Mrs Farmery gave a most instruetive demonstration of cake-icing, transform-1 ing a lucky member 's Christmas cakes. The best bloom competition wa® won by Mrs A. Ogelvie with a huge poppy. Miss Anderson was second with a rose and Mrs C. G. Averill third with a beautiful delphinium. The competition, "something new from something old, ' ' was won by Mrs Averill, her entry being a wonderful floor rug made from old stockings and garments. Mrs W. Johnston was second with a cushion made of old felt hats and Mrs P. Walker third with a child's coat and bonnet. These competitions were judged by Mrs McClagon assisted by Miss Farmery. The hostesses were Mrs G. Andersen and Mrs P. Walker. Mrs Andersen 's social competition* was won by Mrs P. (Shield, Mrs W. A. Whyte and Miss Elmers tied for second plaee.
