NEW HOSPITAL BUILDINGS

Proposed Expenditure of £18,000 NAPIER AND HASTINGS Additions, costing over £18,00, are proposed by the Hawke's Bay Hospital Board for its institutions in Napier and Hastings, and plans have been obtained in respect of three separate buildings. The proposed works are the provision for accommodation for the trained nursing staff ftt the Napier Hospital, an X-ray block at the same institution, and a swimming pool and additions to the Nurses' Home at the Hastings Memorial Hospital. The estimated expenditure is as f oilows: — £ Nurses' accommodation, Napier 11,000 X-ray block, Napier 5,000 .Additions, Hastings 2,450 Total £18,450 As these are estimates only, the final total may vary considerably from that now anticipated, Faced with the necessity of finding adequate accommodation for 30 members of its trained staffi at Napier— sisters and staff nurses — the board may Bolve the problem by erecting a new block on a site at the corner of 65th street and" Park road. Plans which have been prepared tentatively reveal that it is proposed to erect the building in an ''L" shape, with frontages to 65th street of 48ft. and to Park road of 111 ft. It will have two storeys and will provide for 30 bedrooms, in addition to a study, a sitting room, a balcony and other compartments. The plans prepared in respect of the Hastings additions provide for a swimming pool, 20ft. wide and 50ft. long, for the use of nurses, and also for 12 new bedrooms, which, toge|her with the existing bedrooms, will enclose the swimming pool. Dre'ssing accommodation alongside the pool is also proposed. A plan has also been presented to the board by the associated architects for the X-ray block which it is intended to erect at the Napier Hospital. This together with the plans for the additions to the nurses' accommodation at Napier!; has been referred by the board to its Napier building committee for consideratiou and report. The Hastings building committee will deal with the plans for the additions at the Hastings institution.
