Effort to be Made to Purchase Radio

ELSTHORPE, Last Night. The usual monthly meeting of the Elsthorpe School Committee was held in the school, Mr. A. McGaffin presiding over Messrs. J. Kenderdine, J. Sutherland, I.. Priest and J. Macaulay (secretary). The teacher reported the roll number at 38, and averag© attendance 34. Mr. E. C. Hurdsfield, agricultural instructor, visited the school during the month. The new: tank had been erected. It was decided to purchase a new lawnmower and to recondition the old one. a The Education Board notified that a sum of money had been provided for the purchase of library readers for the school, and the committee decided to supplement this with a further grant. It was decided to hold the annual picnic and sports at Kairakau beach early in the new school year. It was decided to endeavour to purchase a radio set for the school, and the teacher intimated that a school concert for funds for this purpose would be held on Friday, December 17. The annual prize-giving ceremony will be held on the same evening.
