WILD CHASE
Maori Woman and Police (By Telegraph— Press Association.) WHANGAREI, Last Night. Seeking a refuge in the roadless bush country bordering the upper part of the Hokianga Harbour, a married Maori woman led two constables a wild chase on Friday afternoon and Saturday- morning. Maraea Heke, facing an indictable' charge of pulling and destroying survey pegs, failed to appear in court on Friday and Mr. G. N. Morris, S.M.,. issued a warrant. Constables Taylor and Molloy, ..of Kaitaia, set out immediately,- but found that the home of the accused was deserted. "They then followed^a fruitless search, and it was not until next morning that the constables loeated the acCused at her home. The woman was taken to Kaitaia on the way to Auckland, where she is to serve a sentence of two months in gaol inflicted in her absepce on Friday on a charge of committing mischief by pulling up and burning parta of a bridge.
