Blenheim Farmer on Trial NO BILL RETURNED
(By TelegrapU-
BLENHEIM, This Day. "In the circumstances it is difficult to see how the driver of the truck can be held accountable for the collision," said Mr Justi.ce Northcroft, referring to the Grand Jury this morning in a case against Noel Ernest Sinclair Eose, of Blenheim, farmer, charged with negligently driving a motor vehicle, causing bodilj injury. The case. which wai3 the only indictable charge for the Grand Jury, arose out of an accident at Eapaura, when a girl named Ivory ran from hehind a school bus and was knocked dcwu by Eose's truck, "Frankly I find some difficulty in understanding why this man has been charged at all, nnless the distance travelled after the collision indicates negligence through defective hrakes or negligence in controlling the truck after the collision," the.Judge added. This, however, he indicated to be entirely irrelevant. The Grand Jury retnirned a no bill. The Court is engaged in the re-trial of Leonard Alma Turner, of Pelorus, farmer. on a charge of cattle-stealing on which the jury disagreed at the last sessions.
