Barque Parma Sold To Wrecking Firm The famous old feteel barque Parma, which was sold and converted into a coal hulk last year after she had been severely damaged in a collision soon after her arrival at Glasgow with a cargo of South Australian wheat, has now been sold to a German shipbreaking firm for wrecking. In her time the Parma was one of the finest sailing i ships afloat, and it was only the great cost of repairing the damage from the collision which prevented her owner3 from refitting her and keeping her in commission. • ... Since she was built as the Arroy of Port Glasgow by. A. Rodger and Com'pany in 1902, the barque has served under many owners. Soon after the outbreak of the war she was taken over by the British Shipping Controller and was used by the Government for the next four years. Several years later the Parma was bought by the Laiesz Line, Hamburg, and used in the South American nltratc trade until 1930, when she passed into the hands of Captain Reuben de Cloux, the famous sailing ship master, who was for many years associated with the Herzogin : Cecile. '• At the. time of the Parma 's collision last year she wa3 owned by a Finnish syndicate. In 1933 the vessel made the best passage in the grain race from South Australia tp Falmouth. her Time being the remarkable one of 83 days,
