Whakarire's Work During Past Month ■■ ^ Dredging operations were carried oufc at- tho 'breakwater harbour during tlie past month by tbe dredge Whakarire. Tbe dredge Hapai returned to Auckland on October 23 and during its operations handlcd 193,800 tons of material. Tbe work carried out by tbe Whakarire was reported on- by tbe engineer, Mr. G. W. B. Lowson, to tbe Napier Harbour Board as under: — "After completing tbe beavy inshore portion of harbour dredging, tbn Whakarire was laid up for quarterly boiler-eleaning and the opportunity was taken to' effect repairs to tbe ' dredging gear and to the sbip gener* ally. This, together witb two kolidays, aceounted for tbe bulk of the seven working days lost during tbe month. Tbe dredger is engaged in deepening tbe western side of the large no. 4. wbarf to its final low-water deptb of 35 feet, witb a view to enabling tbe ereetion of tbis structure being commenced as soon as possible.
