DRIVE ON NANKING
Capital Prepares Defences (Received 15, 12.50 p.m.) NANKING, Nov. 14. The defences outside and inside the capital and also on the river fronts are rapidly being strbngthened, because the Japanese advanee from Shanghai is assUming the appearance of a grave threat to Nanking itself. Nevertheless, the Government is not moving farther inland. The Japanese, after occupation of Changtelifu, in North Honan, are pressing eastwavd against the Twenty-nintb Chinese Army. The Japanese claim to have entered Taitsing and Waiking. They are confident of smashing the sooalled Chinese Hindenburg Line from Tangtse to Hangchow Bay within 48 hours.
