BENEFICIAL RAIN
Wet .Week-end for Province 0 CRICKET AFFECTED Showery weather was experienced in Hastings and the surrounding distriets during the week-end. Though the change in the weather upset sporting engagements and antieipated outings to the beach and other picnic-placos, the rain proved welcome, as it was most beneficial to the district. . All cricket in Hastings was postponed, though in Napier only oue of the junior divisions was called off, the othei fixtures being played. The majority of the bowling clubs carried on, though the attendances were not hp to the usual, while tennis was played on hard courts only. The attendance at -the Napier Park races did not appear to be affected though, during the afternoon, there were showers. The heaviest falls of rain were experienced in the coastal distriets and those near tEe ranges. The break in the weather was welcomed generally by the farming community for the light rain will be most beneficial to crops and will freshen-up the feed for stock. One effect of the break in the weather was the interruption in shearing operations throughout the province, while some farmers who make a prao tice of taking an early "rake-off" of hay at this time of the year, to allow ijhe young growth to become well established for the main crop, were caught with their stacks in various stages of construction.
