During the destruction of a house at Melbourne, Austraiia, a brick was smashed, and found to contain sevcra' sovereigns dated 1847. Six people are dead, 40 are sufFering from burns, and one person is missing as "a result of forest flres in the Slioslioni National Forest near Cody, Wyoniing. A hre swept through four big hotels on the sea-front at Ashbury Park, New Jersey, and did damage amounting to raore than £15,000. (
