LETTERS TO EDITOR

SWINE HERD

PIGS AND FLIES

Sir, — There shouid not be any occasion to bring before the notiee of the authorities the unhealthy_, vile-smelling conditions that exist in many of the piggeries in our district. We are proud of our sanitary laws in New Zealand, tliose governing domestic sanitation, but we are allowing all the refuse from the pig-s'ty to .empty into open aud often stagnant drains. The refuse should be treated m the same manner as country household sewage — that is, to discharge into a septic tank or otherwiso destroyed. 1 agree with "Swat That Fry," in the interests of the health of the community, an inspection should be made.

— Yours, etc.,
