MRS. MARY S. BOLTON

A wide eircle of friends will deplore the news of the death of Mrs. Mary S. Bolton, relict of the 'late Mr. Sainuel BoltoD, of "Oete," Pahiatua, which oecurred at Masterton, on Thursday at a private hospital, which she had entered on Monday last for observation. Fol- - lowing medical consultation an operation was decided upon but death intervened. Born in Norwood, a suburb of Adelaide, South Australia, the late Mrs. Bolton was a daughter ofthe late Mr. John Hindmarsh, and grand-daughter of the late Rear- Admiral Sir John Hindmarsh, first Governor of South Australia and previously Governor of Heiigoiand, the only surviving grandphild now being Evelyn Stephens, of Sydney. She was about 18 when her parents came to New Zealand, residing first in Napier. There she married the late Mr. Samuel Bolton, who first tooli up land at Pohue and then at Mangatutu, removing to "Oete," -Pahiatua, about 1889, where she had resided ever since. To all appearances Mrs. Bolton eujoyed good health until recently and only last year, in couipany with her son, Mr. Felix Bolton, and nephew, Mr. St. John Hindmarsh, of Napier, attended the jubilee ceiebrations at Adelaide. Mys. Bolton was a great reader and an entertaining coinpauion, hercompany bemg sought by old apd youn^, and her kindly -dispositiou had won lief- the affectionate esteein of a host of friends. Her husband predeceased her some three years ago and only a few weeks ago she suffered a blow by tho sudden death of a daughter, Mrs. O. H. Druce, of Kumeroa. There are left to mourn their loss eight daughters, Mrs. Albert Beetham Mrs. Harold Beetham and Mrs. Trevor Beetham, all of Masterton, Mrs. Wiltred Turner (Puketitiri), Mrs. Coghill (Wanganui), Mrs. Noel Grant (Palmerston North), Mrs. Carr McPhail (Cogiuup, Western Australia), Mrs. C. H Wells (Gisborne), and two sons, Messrs. Felix Bolton, "Oete," Pahiatua, and J. C. Bolton (Woodville), i'here are also 45 grandchiJdren and four great-grandchildren. The funeral will take place at Woodville on Saturday.
